Dinner with a famous view at Bled Castle

For the final night of our Eastern European adventure through Hungary, Romania, Croatia and Slovenia, we booked a table for the tasting menu at Bled Castle's restaurant. Now, Bled Castle sits right in the edge of the lake at the top of a cliff, so the views from up there are worth the price of the meal alone!

We booked our table for 7:30pm, which meant we got to enjoy the view while it was still light, as entry to the castle is included when you make a dinner reservation, so we came an hour early to explore it. We decided to make the scenic climb up to the castle by foot (you can also hire taxis to take you via the road). Since it was a scorching hot August day, I wore shorts and a vest and then changed into a dress for dinner once I got up there!
Dinner itself was pretty decent - not the best tasting menu we've had, but we enjoyed the tortellini and the squid ink risotto in particular.

The best thing about eating here is, of course, the atmosphere, though. Not only was the view heavenly, but when the sun began to set we were treated to a light show of oranges, pinks and purples.
Totally worth the climb up...and the climb back down.
