Where We Ate in Portugal!

We spent ten days in Lisbon, Sintra and Obidos. Here are a few of the delicious things we ate during our trip!
LISBON
1. Gourmet hotdogs at Frankie Hot Dogs
Without question, the best hotdogs we've ever had. I got the mac and cheese dog, and Patrick got the 'four fingers' dog with onion rings, bacon and BBQ sauce. JUST LOOK AT THEM!! The place has a very cool atmosphere and attracts more of a local crowd, as it's outside the touristic centre. The prices are so reasonable too, perhaps because of its location.

2. 11 course tasting menu at Cave 23
I've written an entire post about our meal at Cave 23, because it deserves it. Click here to see more from our epic meal!

3. Pasteis de Nata at Pastelaria Alcoa
We didn't really want to wait in the ridiculous queue at Pasteis de Belem...plus, I'd already tried their pasteis last time I was in Portugal. So we decided to try Alcoa instead, loving not only their fresh-out-of-the-oven pasteis de nata but also a selection of their other pastries too, which I might even dare to say were even better than the pasteis!

SINTRA
1. Tasting menu dinner at Incomum
This tasting menu wasn't at the same calibre as Cave 23 (I think Cave 23 is up there in my top 10 meals of all time, so Incomum didn't stand much of a chance, really!) However, I really enjoyed their scallop risotto with passionfruit - very different! They also have an attached wine bar, and we really enjoyed the very reasonably priced and delicious wine parings with our meal. Top value!

2. Fancy francesinhas at Metamorphosis
This place near the train station looks so unassuming, you'd be likely to pass it without even noticing it. However, inside you'll find a tasteful, simply decorated restaurant that serves really, really good unpretentious Portuguese food. We'd both tried francesinhas before in Porto, and hadn't been that impressed, but eating them at Metamorphosis made us realise why they are so popular! Ours were perfectly seasoned, with good quality meat, cheese and a perfectly cooked egg on top!

3. Lunch at Saudade Cafe
This seemed to be THE place to eat in Sintra. We stumbled upon it by accident, looking for a lunch as soon as we arrived in town. It's super kitsch and they have a home-made, bio focus. I tried one of their mini chicken pies, which was delicious - but I don't have a photo!
OBIDOS
1. Mother's secret steak at A Nova Casa de Ramiro
Without any question, we had the best steak of our entire lives here. It is cooked to the owner's mother's secret recipe. All I know is it featured red peppercorns, an egg and a sauce that was so divine I still have dreams about it. The welcome and hospitality from the owner and staff here was also 10 out of 10. It's justly rated the top restaurant in Obidos, and I recommend it to anyone spending the night in Obidos.

2. Ginja and flaming sausage on Obidos mainstreet and Bar Ibn Erik Rex
We loved wandering down the main street in Obidos and sampling ginja (cherry liqueur) in little chocolate cups. We also tried the flaming sausage at Bar Ibn Erik Rex - thin, cured sausages served on a ceramic griddle with flaming coals inside it to char the meat as you watch.
